Aims & Objectives

To promote the highest possible standards of teaching, study and research among those engaged in the practice of Allergy, Immunology and related diseases in the best traditions of medicine and medical ethics.

To advance and encourage the study of Allergy and Immunology and to distribute information of importance to the practice of Allergy and Immunology.

To convene scientific meetings designed to update clinicians and paramedical professionals involved in the practice of Allergy and as a forum for presentation of scientific papers of importance to the practice of Allergy and Immunology.

To advance the knowledge and practice of Allergy and Immunology by holding meetings, education of students, doctors and the public.

To cooperate with local medical bodies, allied corporations and universities in pursuing its objective.

To coordinate with local academic institutions for advancing this speciality with international bodies, with the above objective.

To coordinate training programmes in Allergy and Immunology.

To develop quality control programmes for diagnostic procedures in Allergy and Immunology.

To organise lectures, seminars, symposia or clinical demonstration.

To work closely with other associations dealing with Autism, Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder, Migraine or other groups, as the committee may deem necessary.

To encourage “support groups” of allergy sufferers to help them improve their quality of life.

To publish newsletters, education materials, journals, magazines, periodicals, circulars, calendars or other scientific work as may seem conductive to promotion and benefit of the objectives of the Society with the prior approval of the authority concerned.

To promote friendly cooperation and good fellowship among members.

To engage or participate in such business activities or investments for the purpose of raising funds for the Society, provided always that all money, profits generated for such business activities or investments shall solely be utilized for the furtherance/benefit and development of the objectives of the Society and no part of such money or profit shall be for the payment of interest, profit or bonus to any member of the Society. This provision shall not bar any payment genuinely made towards salaries or expenses or both to any member or staff of the Society.

Membership

Membership in the Society shall be composed to Life, Honorary, Ordinary, Associate, Allied Health, Corporate and Corresponding Membership.

Life Membership

Application for this category may be made directly to the Executive Committee by Ordinary Members who pay a one time fee of RM1,000.00. Such members shall continue to enjoy the privileges of Ordinary Members and shall be exempted from paying annual fees.

Honorary Membership

Honorary members shall be distinguished persons who have rendered notable service to the Society or to the advancement in the field of Allergy and Immunology, and shall be recommended by the Executive Committee and elected by a majority at a General Meeting. Honorary membership shall be for life. Such members shall be exempted of membership fee and shall have no voting rights except for members who have been upgraded from Ordinary Membership or those who are Life Members.

Ordinary Membership

  1. Ordinary members shall be open to graduates of Medicine and/or Immunology and shall be Malaysian citizens above 18 years of age, actively involved in the practice, research or teaching of Allergy and/or Immunology comprising of:
    • Dermatologists
    • Otorhinolaryngologists
    • Endocrinologists
    • Gasteroenterologists
    • General Physicians or Internists with special interest in Allergy and Immunology
    • Immunologists
    • Nephrologists
    • Opthalmologists
    • Paediatricians
    • Pathologists
    • Respiratory Physicians
    • Rheumatologists & possessing a minimum post-graduate qualification of any of the following:
      • Members of Fellows of the Royal College of Physicians or Surgeons (UK and Ireland)
      • Members of Fellows of the Royal Australian College of Physicians or
      • Members of the Royal College of Pathology (UK) and the equivalent Australian Certificate
      • Masters in Medicine, Surgery or Pathology from Malaysia or Singapore
      • Board Certified American equivalent of the above (internal) Medicine and related medical specialities including Allergy and Immunology
  2. Medical Practitioners with interest in Allergy and Immunology but without postgraduate qualification in related field may be considered for Ordinary Membership at the discretion of the Executive Committee.
  3. Non-medical graduates involved in investigations or research in the field of Allergy and Immunology. The relevance of the related discipline and the degree of involvement in Allergy and Immunology shall be assessed by the Executive Committee at the time of the application for Ordinary membership. They shall primarily be:
    • Allergologists
    • Immunologists
    • Microbiologists
    • Biochemists
    • Nutritionists
    • Physiologists

Corresponding Membership

This category of membership is reserved for applicants who reside outside Malaysia. They should be Allergists and/or Immunologist or Allied Health Professionals with a special interest in Allergy. Such members shall pay the fee of an Ordinary member and shall be eligible to all rights of a member but shall have no voting rights and shall not hold office in the Society. Corresponding members who have been upgraded to Honorary Fellows or Honorary Membership will be exempted from paying membership fee.

Associate Membership

Will be persons who can aid the aims of the Society but do not fulfil the criteria for Ordinary Membership. They will be considered on merit by the Executive Committee provided that they submit in writing evidence that they are involved in the promotion or sciences of allergy comprising of:

  • Biochemist
  • Dietician
  • Medical Practitioners with interest in Allergy and Immunology
  • Nutritionist
  • Scientific Workers

Allied Health Membership

An individual serving as an Allergy and Immunology Nurse, Technicians or other Para-Medical Personnel engaged in Allergy and Immunology work. Such persons may attend scientific meetings and social functions of the Society but shall have no voting rights.

Corporate Membership

Shall be open to companies dealing with pharmaceuticals, allergy diagnostic equipment and related corporations.

This category of members may attend the scientific meetings and social functions but shall have no voting rights. Such companies/bodies who lend substantial support to the Society shall be termed as corporate sponsors and shall pay an entrance fee of RM500.00 and annual fee of RM300.00.

Application of Membership

Every application of membership shall be made on the approved form obtained from the Secretariat. The applicant should be proposed and seconded by two existing member and the application form forwarded to the secretariat at the first convenient opportunity, and then submitted to the Executive Committee for approval. The Committee may at its discretion reject any application without assigning any reason thereof.

Every applicant whose application has been approved as aforesaid shall, upon payment of the prescribed entrance fee and first annual subscription be admitted as a member of the Society and shall be entitled to all the privileges of membership.

Entrance Fee, Subscription and Other Dues

The financial year shall start on the first day of January each year and end on the 31st of December of the same year.

The following fees shall be payable by all (except Honorary, Life and Corporate Members).

  • Entrance Fees - RM100.00
  • Annual Subscription - RM50.00

The annual subscription for the various categories of membership shall be decided upon from time to time at the Annual General Meeting.

The annual subscription shall be payable to the ‘Malaysian Society of Allergy and Immunology’ at the beginning of each financial year.

Rights and Privileges of Membership

Members are entitled to attend meetings of the Society

Members may introduce not more than two guests each to clinical and scientific meeting. Guests shall not attend business meetings of Society.

Life, Upgraded Honorary and Ordinary members shall be entitled to hold office in the Executive Committee and to vote.

Ordinary or Associate Members who have been suspended for non-payment can be restored to membership upon payment of all unpaid dues.

Any member who has not settled his payments/dues shall cease to have voting rights.

Membership and functions of the Society will not be restricted for reasons of race, sex, nationality or religion.

There shall be no limit to the number of members of the Society.
